What is cycle training?
The new National Standard cyclist training trains cyclists to be competent and confident using their bikes for all sorts of journeys.
The National Standard has been developed by all the bodies involved in cycle training and is supported by the Government, local authorities, as well as cycling and road safety organisations.
On-road training is a key part of the new standard. It has been proved highly effective in encouraging safer and more confident cycling for both children and adults. The National Standard sets out what the trainee should be able to do by the end of a training course and takes cyclists beyond the scope of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ (RoSPA) Cycling Proficiency scheme that you may have done whilst at school.
The new National Standards Cycle Training is all about teaching both adults and children how to ride a bicycle safely on the road, teaching them to become confident, integrated traffic users, understanding the complexities of road traffic and awareness of others.
Before signing up for any training, make sure that your cycle instructor is a National Standards Cycle Instructor.
